Have fun and enjoy reading at your reading level!! After working long and hard for weeks on end, the finished product of our biography projects came out better than I ever could have imagined and I couldn't be more proud of my Super Stars.
Each student chose a leader in history who has impacted society in one way or another. They had to use a book and an article to research their life, create a time line, and write a short essay about the importance of their leadership to the world we live in. Each student got to present their Leader to the class and teach us everything they learned about them, followed by a short question and answer session. Everyone did an AMAZING job. What a great way to end the quarter. :) This quarter my class and I are reading "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane," by Kate DiCamillo. We have been focusing a lot on asking thoughtful questions, and discussing possible solutions as a whole class. 1. I wonder... if Edward will ever see Abilene again. 2. How come... Pelligrina said she was "disappointed in Edward?" 3. Why... would someone throw Edward in the garbage? Each chapter has been leaving us with a "cliff hanger" and we have been making lots of predictions about where we think our character will end up next. 1. I think... 2. Maybe this means... 3. I'm guessing... 4. I predict_______ because... We can't wait to keep reading this week to see what happens to Edward after he's thrown in the trash. "A young girl's dream of attending school in her small Ugandan village is fulfilled after her family is given an income-producing goat. Based on a true story about the work of the Heifer project." "Heifer International is a nonprofit organization working to end hunger and poverty and save the earth through gifts of farm animals and training. Over the course of sixty years, Heifer has helped 4.5 million people striving for self-reliance in 128 countries, including the United States.
The idea is simple, and it works. Instead of providing hungry families with a temporary source of food, Heifer International provides the "living loan" of an animal. A family's health and standard of living is greatly improved by what the animal can provide. This might be milk from a cow or goat, eggs from poultry, draft power from water buffalo or wool from llamas. Heifer also provides training in animal care and in farming methods that preserve the environment. Each family in turn passes on these gifts to another family in need, creating a chain of hope that lifts entire communities. She wants so badly to be a princess herself that she agree to help him, not knowing that he plans to lock Princess Pea in the dungeon for the rest of eternity. Hopefully, the brave and mighty Despereaux will come to the rescue, but how?? What do you think is going to happen next? |
