Finding Area and Perimeter
Over the past couple of weeks, we have been working on finding the area and perimeter of rectilinear shapes. We have found, that it is much easier to decompose complex shapes using highlighters! First, we found the total perimeter of the shape, by adding up all the sides. Next, we broke apart the rectilinear into two smaller rectangles, and then found the area of each rectangle. Then we added up the area of each to find the total area. |
Using two different colors helped us see the different ways we can decompose rectilinear shapes to find the area.
